Biography


Prof. Dr. Ferid Hudhri is an art historian and researcher in Figurative Arts.

 

He was born in 1949 in Elbasan, Albania. In 1974 he graduated from the Academy of Arts in Tirana. In 1986 he completed a postgraduate degree in History of Art, and in 1990 attended specialised training in Art History at the Museum of Louvre in Paris. He also received training from the Central European University in Prague in 1993-1994.


During 1974 to 1985 he worked at the League of Writers and Artists of Albania as an editor in Figurative Arts for the "Drita" newspaper. In 1986 he joined the Academy of Sciences and in the years 1992 to 1997, he became Director of The Centre of Art Studies at the Academy of Sciences in Tirana. Since 2008 he has been working as a historian of Figurative Arts in the Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Art Studies at the Centre of Albanian Studies. He continues to travel abroad for research purposes in many countries including France, the United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, Greece, Egypt and the USA.


He has published many articles, research papers, taught at universities and spoke at numerous conferences of art history. His most successful books are: Albania and Albanians in World Art published first in Albanian (Tirana, 1989) then in English (Athens, 1990), Art of Albanian Renaissance in Albanian (Tirana, 2000), which was awarded



the ‘Silver Pen’ prize in Tirana in 2002, Albania Through Art published in Albanian and English (Tirana, 2008), Albanians in World Art Encyclopedia published in Albanian (Tirana, 2012), and his most recent book Albania in Art published in Albanian (Tirana, 2018), which is also being translated in Chinese and soon in English and Russian.


He is currently working on the latest edition of the encyclopedia Albanians in World Art, which will act as a collective of all the research he has carried out and the discoveries made throughout his whole art and scientific career. This publication will contain detailed information and works from over 2000 artists, many of which have been and continue to be discovered in recent years.
